Steve Pavlick is a trusted policy advisor who leverages his more than two decades of experience at the intersection of Capitol Hill and capital markets to help clients identify opportunities and predict political, legislative, and regulatory outcomes in today’s dynamic public policy environment.

Steve returned to Mindset to help broaden the company’s growing advisory practice, providing strategic insights  and actionable analysis of policy and political developments  for both companies and investors.  Prior to rejoining Mindset, Steve was Partner & Head of Policy at Renaissance Macro, a leading independent sell-side macro research firm catering to buy-side institutional investors.  Steve obtained his Series 7, 63, and 65 licenses and helped money managers develop and refine their investment theses to include political and policy impacts and probabilities.  Steve has appeared on CNBC, Fox Business, Bloomberg, Yahoo Finance, and China Global Television Network (CGTN).  He has also been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Barron’s, Market Watch, the South China Morning Post, Politico, the Daily Caller, and other leading publications.

Before Renaissance Macro, Steve served as an Advisor and then Deputy Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury under Secretary Steven Mnuchin.  There he led the Treasury Department’s engagement with the Senate and House of Representatives on the Department’s International Affairs portfolio, helping to secure the passage of the Trade Promotion Authority and the IMF quota reforms among other achievements.  He also represented the Treasury Department before Congress on CFIUS, the Financial Stability Board, the Basel Committee, and export credits.  Steve also led the Treasury Department’s congressional engagement on the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act of 2018 (FIRRMA).

Prior to joining Treasury, Steve served as the Economic Portfolio Presidential Appointments Lead for the Presidential Transition Team for Donald J. Trump.  In that role, he helped identify and vet senior officials to serve in key economic positions in the new administration.

Before  serving in the Trump administration, Steve was a Research Director at Mindset. He has also worked for Senate Majority Bill Frist, Senator George Allen, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and as a registered lobbyist for Rolls-Royce and Northrop Grumman.

Steve has a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.  Steve also graduated from Gonzaga College High School, where he captained the football and lacrosse teams.

Steve lives in Potomac, MD, with his wife Rachel and their sons Stephen and George.

His hidden talent is applying the mixology skills he acquired as a former bartender at the City Tavern Club.
