Shawnda guides clients as they navigate legislative and regulatory matters, synthesizing complex issues into clear, actionable strategies tailored to serve their particular interests. In addition to her meticulous research-based approach to advising clients, she leans on her expansive network in and around Capitol Hill to advance our clients’ goals. Shawnda is also a critical part of the firm’s internal and external efforts on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Prior to joining Mindset, Shawnda served as a Senior Analyst in the Office of Government Affairs at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). While there, she served as an expert on federal legislative issues pertinent to the securities industry, and additionally cultivated impactful relationships both within business units at FINRA and beyond to the wider financial services industry. Her engagement also extended to activating key events, including investor education events and activation with the Diversity Leadership Council with a focus on enhancing the office’s diverse and inclusive work environment.
Prior to joining FINRA, Shawnda served as the State Affairs Counsel at the Financial Services Institute. Earlier in her career, she cultivated experience working on federal political campaigns and in the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
Shawnda holds a BA in political science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a JD from North Carolina Central University School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and Washington, DC.
